Thank you to the families who helped with our Halloween celebration on Tuesday. We had four stations and plenty for students to do, after changing into costumes.
On Monday and continuing into Tuesday, we integrated an engineering activity, a science lesson, a reading passage and an Discovery Education video into our learning around the holiday.
Students have been studying arthropods and this week was a chance to visit Arrow Creek Park and look for them. We shook trees and bushes, lifted rocks, and used aspirators, all in an effort to see what we could find and keep track of how many of a specific group we could find.
Ultimately, this information will be shared with Truckee Meadows Parks.
We continue to make huge academic strides and cover a lot of content. We completed our work with place value and have started a unit on multi-digit multiplication. We continued our study of the Earth and Sun with activities in and out of the classroom. We moved a Which One Doesn’t Belong to the four square area and thanks to our art volunteers, finished a lesson that integrated our language standards.
After paying rent, students participated in our first classroom auction. This was a chance for the students to use extra money they have earned, through academic and social citizenship, on items donated from a number of companies.
We packed a lot in this week and not only did a series of community building activities, but also got to a lot of content. We worked in all of our subject areas, went outside for PE, and finished our first art project. An amazingly fun and productive week!

Pictures from our trip to Billinghurst, as the students get ready for middle school. The field trip included ice breakers, visits to multiple classrooms, a review of outdoor and indoor expectations, and work with their future principal, Mr. Mattick.
We maximized our instructional time as we headed into Spring Break 2023. We got another visit from Mrs. Gillette, role played key events from the American Revolution, finished our latest Doodles project and completed our first assignments on Writable. We also acknowledged Pi Day and Reading Week, which was punctuated by reading with a flashlight.
We’ve been busy and got a lot done, despite all of the snow we have been contending with. We have worked through our core content areas, integrated art, and spent extra time on fluency through Reader’s Theater. We had a classroom auction, this time student-led, and opted into Nevada’s Reading Week. We even had a chance to visit with our kindergartners and show off our ability to read with prosody.
