Thank you to all the companies who donated to the classroom economy. As you can see, the kids were excited to spend their money, although a couple held back so they could purchase their desks instead.

Pro Se Court: Homework
Today, we completed our first Pro Se Court. After reading about the homework debate, annotating for text evidence, and considering claims, students were randomly assigned roles as prosecutors, defense attorneys, or judges for the case. Ultimately, the panel of seven judges, in a 4-3 decision, concluded that homework is beneficial for children.
The First Week of the School Year
What a terrific first week of instruction. We learned a host of new routines, worked with new content, and started building our 3rd grade community. Given what we got done over the first five days, it is obvious we will accomplish a lot this school year.
Thanksgiving STEM Challenge
Before starting Thanksgiving vacation, the students participated in a STEM challenge where they built bridges using cranberries, toothpicks, and index cards. To test their effectiveness, we used gram weights to measure how much weight each bridge could hold. It was impressive to see the final designs and how strong many of the structures turned out to be.
Field Day 2024
The families at Hunsberger put together an extremely impressive Field Day. Students had 10 different rotations with an opportunity to spend 10 minutes at each one. A pretty terrific day to end a pretty terrific year.
Working Hard Since Labor Day
We continue to make huge academic strides and cover a lot of content. We completed our work with place value and have started a unit on multi-digit multiplication. We continued our study of the Earth and Sun with activities in and out of the classroom. We moved a Which One Doesn’t Belong to the four square area and thanks to our art volunteers, finished a lesson that integrated our language standards.
The First Week of the School Year
We packed a lot in this week and not only did a series of community building activities, but also got to a lot of content. We worked in all of our subject areas, went outside for PE, and finished our first art project. An amazingly fun and productive week!
